TPT FILING & 1099s
Don’t Let TPT and 1099s Derail Your Year-End—Here’s What to Prep Now
As the year winds down, business owners are focused on finishing strong - but nothing throws off momentum like last-minute tax surprises.
If you are not keeping up with Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) filings or 1099 prep, you could face penalties, delays, and unnecessary stress when January hits. The good news? A little preparation now can save a lot of headaches later.
At Bloomrock Resources, we help small businesses stay compliant and organized, especially when it comes to state and federal requirements. Here is your TPT + 1099 Year-End Checklist to keep your business on track.
✅ 1. Review Your TPT Filing Status
If you operate in a state like Arizona, you’re likely responsible for TPT—not your customers. TPT is not a traditional sales tax, and missteps are common.
What to check:
Are you registered with ADOR for all locations you do business in?
Are you filing monthly, quarterly, or annually as required?
Are you up to date on filings and payments?
Do you have accurate gross receipts records for each reporting period?
💡 Tip: Cities like Phoenix, Mesa, and Tucson have additional reporting layers. Missing a city filing = instant penalty.
✅ 2. Gather W-9s from All Contractors & Vendors
If you paid an individual or non-incorporated business $600 or more this year, you’ll likely need to send them a 1099-NEC.
Make sure you have a completed W-9 on file for:
Freelancers
Consultants
Rent payments
Legal services
Independent contractors
No W-9 = no EIN = no 1099 = potential IRS penalties.
✅ 3. Match Vendor Payments to Records
Start reviewing your accounts payable now. Go through vendor and contractor payments to identify:
Who qualifies for a 1099
Total amounts paid
Payment method (checks, ACH, etc.)
💡 Payments made through credit card or PayPal may fall under 1099-K rules, and you may not need to file—but be sure.
✅ 4. Confirm Your Business Info Is Up to Date
When you file 1099s or TPT returns, incorrect business details (like a wrong address or EIN) can trigger errors or rejections.
Check that:
Your EIN is current
Your business address and contact info are correct
Your TPT license number is active and accurate
✅ 5. Know Your Deadlines
📅 TPT Filing Deadlines (Arizona):
Monthly filers: Due the 20th of each month
Annual filers: Due January 31
📅 1099 Filing Deadlines:
Send forms to recipients by January 31
Submit to IRS (paper or e-file) by January 31
